Supporting people with learning difficulties at Albion House

Albion House is a day time support service based in Oxford providing personalised assistance to people with learning difficulties.

Nicola chatted to staff who explained how they work with the individual to explore their interests and plan activities to meet their needs as well as developing social skills and encouraging people to exercise and look after themselves. Support workers can help people attend health appointments, use local transport, learn to cook, and go shopping. Albion House also provides a range of experiences for sensory stimulation and support such as SMILE, Music Therapy, sensory room sessions, Intensive Interaction and relaxation.

She also heard first-hand from people using the service about what a difference it makes to their lives, before being grilled on life as a Member of Parliament!

Nicola says: Albion House is a fantastic service giving individual and personalised support to those who need it in a relaxing environment, today I saw how people learn new skills as well as making new friends. It was lovely to hear from residents themselves about how the service has made a real difference to their lives, and they didn’t hold back in the Q&A!
