Nicola visited the Independent Living Centre in Abingdon to see for herself the brilliant work the centre staff do to support those living with a disability and elderly people to increase and maintain their independence.
Concerns have been raised with Nicola about the future of the service given the tough financial situation facing Oxfordshire County Council who are having to make budgetary savings.
The Centre provides this free service to any adult residing in Oxfordshire, and provides a range of services tailored to people’s needs. Nicola has been working with Guideposts, who run the service, and raising the issues surrounding funding with County Council, who are working to find a way to continue to offer the service.

Nicola says: The ILC does a wonderful job providing support, advice and equipment to those who need it most, providing a person-based service enabling them to continue living at home. Its clear this is an important resource to those who use it, and I will be continuing to raise this with County Council and push for a solution to be found.
