Jo Cox was an extraordinary humanitarian, mother and politician who life has left an indelible mark on all those she met. In the tragically short time she was in Parliament she challenged all of us with her passion and determination and we must now ensure we live up to her standards not just on the issues close to her heart, like refugees and loneliness, but also in the quality of debate going forward. This terrible event has held up a mirror to our nation and we should each and every one of us pause and consider whether we are proud of our actions in public debate over the last few weeks and months. This is the moment when we decide our character as a nation, whether we can choose humanity over hatred and evidence over rhetoric. Let us choose the higher path.
