Nicola met with John Hayes MP, Minister of State for Transport, to press for a timetable for improvements promised for the A34. Back in December, the Chancellor announced £50 million of investment for the route to improve the Botley and Peartree junctions and a Transport Management System to give drivers early warning of congestion, along with a Feasibility Study to determine the long term future of the road. And now, as part of the Oxfordshire Growth Deal, the Vale of White Horse District Council, Oxfordshire County Council and the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) have agreed to bring the Diamond Junction at Lodge Hill forward as a priority.
During her recent meeting with the Transport Minister, Nicola asked for an update on when local residents can expect to see the vital upgrade work take place and also for a time table for the long term Feasibility Study. The Minister explained his plan as part of the Roads Investment Strategy (RIS) and that the Highways Agency is developing its delivery plan.
Design work for these schemes has now commenced, and we can expect an update and proposed Delivery Plan in early March. Nicola has received a letter from the Minister to set out further details on timings, available here: John Hayes letter
Nicola will keep up this pressure to ensure we see much-needed improvements in a reasonable time frame, and looks forward to meeting with the Minister again to hear more.
