Nicola convened a Cycle Summit between Oxfordshire County Council, the Local Enterprise Partnership, and local cycling groups Cyclox, Bikesafe and the Oxfordshire Cycling Network, in order to improve coordination and communication between cycling groups and local decision makers.
Cycle groups have much to bring to the table when making decisions about cycle infrastructure: their extensive knowledge of the area and expertise. Nicola believes they should be fully involved in local plans about developing our cycling infrastructure, encouraging cycling and bidding for cycling funds from Government. Nicola has previously asked questions on the floor of the House to represent cycling community groups, for example she has raised the important issue of funding being made available for them to use when they need it, making clear the impact that community cycling groups have.
Local decision makers agreed that while some transport consultation processes had effectively included cycling groups, others had not done enough and that future LEP planning meetings on cycling infrastructure must include a cycling group representative to avoid this problem reoccurring.
