Oxfordshire is home to a range of growing high-tech companies, indeed it is one of the best places in the country to start and expand an innovation-led business. Gigaclear, with its HQ in Abingdon, is a UK leader for ultrafast broadband provision and a specialist in delivering to rural and hard to reach communities. It is a fantastic local success story
On a recent visit to their HQ, Nicola met with different members of the Gigaclear team from the Chief Executive, Matthew Hare, to Community Campaigners to technical designers to Customer Support team to get a clearer picture of what it takes to deliver broadband to rural communities.
Gigaclear has now installed fibre broadband to more than 4,000 properties in Oxfordshire.
Nicola has been pressing hard for better local broadband, and recently raised the issue of BTs performance as a monopoly provider with the Minister for Culture & the Digital Economy, Ed Vaizey MP, asking how the Government will work to improve the level of service from BT. Ed Vaizey told Nicola he is aware of the problems with the Government’s Openreach Broadband programme, and assured her that it is recruiting additional engineers.
