Nicola visited Scottish and Southern Electricity’s (SSE) Oxford depot on Friday to launch the local ‘Getting Ready for Winter’ campaign.
Nicola met with senior staff at SSE headquarters to discuss the pressures caused by cold weather during the winter months, such as power shortages and disruptions. She heard about the plans SSE are drawing up to reduce the potential impact on residents.
The campaign is an important part of SSE’s strategy and aims to prepare and inform local people so that they can respond quickly in the event of a shortage.
She also met with committed SSE apprentices to hear about their training and their hopes of becoming electrical engineers in the future.
Nicola says Power shortages are a constant concern during the winter months and it is vital that residents are well-prepared, particularly those who are vulnerable. This campaign is so important because it informs people about what they can do in the event of an emergency, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to hear about it today.
We also discussed measures being taken to improve service to areas affected by more frequent power outages – like the Appleton area – and contingency plans for flooding.
