Local crime at its lowest level for 25 years

Once again, Nicola hosted Chief Constable Francis Habgood and PCC Anthony Stanfield in the House of Commons for their regular update meeting for Thames Valley MPs.

Key points from their presentation include:

  • Overall crime is at its lowest level for 25 years – down by 4.9%
  • 5,000 fewer victims of crime
  • Overall victim satisfaction is at 89%
  • Domestic burglary at lowest level for 42 years
  • Rural crime has fallen by 19% despite a 5.2% national increase
  • Violence has risen although it lower than the national average
  • Significant increase in reporting of sexual offences, many historic, and greater confidence for victims to report sexual offences
  • HMIC rated Thames Valley police as outstanding for its financial position for the short and long term
  • PCC has allocated £2m to support victims of crime
