Nicola spoke out as a formal objector at the packed Vale Planning Committee Meeting, alongside local residents, business owners and councillors, to strongly oppose developer Doric’s dreadful plans for the West Way shopping centre in Botley.
Hundreds of local residents present and very strong evidence was presented by objector after objector demonstrating exactly how unpopular and inappropriate Doric’s proposals are for Botley and the local community.
It was a tremendous relief, therefore, when common sense prevailed and the councillors of the Vale Planning Committee voted unanimously to reject Doric’s application to redevelop the West Way Shopping Centre.
But the battle is not over. Doric have said they will appeal and Nicola has pledged to continue to fight alongside Botley residents, who have already shown themselves to be the most formidable of opponents.
Nicola says: No one disputes the fact that the West Way Shopping Centre is in need of investment – almost all local residents I speak to welcome the suggestion of upgrading the shopping centre but this is not the way to do it. Not only are Doric’s proposals entirely out of character with Botley but they will also cause traffic chaos in an already badly congested area. It is disappointing that Doric have not listened to the views of local residents, local councillors and now the local planning committee and are choosing to appeal but we will continue to fight these proposals and work to deliver a West Way that Botley deserves.
