Carers’ Rights Day with Age UK

Nicola visited Age UK in Abingdon this marking Carers’ Rights Day and meeting with a group of older people and carers to discuss local and national policy issues as well as the Good Neighbours Scheme.

Nicola listened to concerns about Oxfordshire County Council’s budgetary proposals and is writing to the Council to make sure their concerns are heard during the consultation process. The group also discussed carers rights, as the Care Act passed in the last Parliament gives carers new rights and requires local authorities to provide comprehensive information on care services in their local area. The Carer’s Allowance has also been increased.

The Good Neighbours Scheme is a local voluntary group offering help and support to the elderly, vulnerable ans isolated people in their homes. The group is on hand for assistance with things like gardening, shopping, collecting prescriptions or more regular befriending.

If you would like to make use of the scheme, or are interested in becoming a volunteer, contact gna.nea@gmail.com or 07956019611
